Mumbai:

Rhea Chakraborty’s neighbour who accused her of meeting Sushant Singh Rajput a day before his death, has failed to substantiate the claim before the Central Bureau of Investigation, sources said. The agency has warned her against spreading false information, sources said. In the evening, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer indicated they are planning to take on everyone who made fake claims. He said they will be forwarding a list of such persons to the agency and ask it to take legal action.

In a statement, Satish Maneshinde said: “We will be forwarding a list of people to CBI who made fake and false claims on TV and Electronic Media including carrying mobile recording and fake stories on SSR case with particular reference to Rhea Chakraborty to go after them and record their statements. We will request CBI to take legal proceedings against them for misleading the investigations.”

Sushant Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. The Mumbai police said it was a case of suicide, which has been supported by a team of doctors from Delhi’s prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences which looked into the forensic evidence.

A day before he died, Sushant Singh Rajput had met Rhea Chakraborty, her neighbor had claimed on television.

The CBI team met her when they were at Rhea Chakraborty’s home in connection with the investigation. But when they asked her about her claims, she could not substantiate them.

Today, sources said the woman told the CBI that she did not see Sushant Rajput drop Rhea Chakraborty to her home on June 13.

The vilification of Rhea Chakraborty on a section of electronic media and social media has been flagged for long by the actor and her family.

They blamed it for the snowballing of the issue, which led to involvement of three Central agencies in the investigation and the subsequent arrest of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty.

As the 28-year-old got bail from Bombay High Court last week, the judge had sternly refuted the claims of the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The court had contradicted the agency’s claim that she was “an active member of a drug syndicate”.

Noting that the charges did not mention commercial quantities of drugs, the court said spending money in procuring drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput “does not mean that she had financed illicit traffic”.

Rhea Chakraborty’s counsel Satish Maneshinde had told NDTV that the court was also looking into the “role of the media trial in the case”.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family had accused Rhea Chakraborty of drugging him, exploiting him for money and having a role in his death.  She was arrested on September 9 by the Narcotics Control Bureau which is investigation into the drugs angle.

After nearly a month in Mumbai’s Byculla jail, she was released last week.
