Peas are loaded with healthy nutrients including protein, fibre, vitamins, antioxidants et al.
There’s something about the sweet and crunchy green peas (or as we call it in Hindi, matar) that make every dish taste special. Must-have winter goodness in every household, green peas are versatile and can be used to prepare veg fried rice, peas pulao, matar poori, matar kebab, aloo matar and much more. Besides being a delight in the world of culinary, peas are loaded with healthy nutrients including protein, fibre, vitamins (C, K etc), antioxidants et al. They are also low in calorie and make for a great ingredient to include in a weight loss or diabetes diet. You may also nibble matar as is to satiate mid-meal cravings.
We found a unique matar-based recipe that can be a great addition to your food regime this winter season. It is a simple pancake, a healthier variation to the much-popular matar paratha. Shared by vlogger Parul Jain on her YouTube channel ‘Cook with Parul’, this recipe includes fresh green peas, sooji, bread crumbs, curd, ginger, garlic and a host of kitchen spices.
How To Make Matar Pancake:
Step 1. Boil the green peas and coarsely grind them with green chilies and garlic cloves. The coarse texture will help make the pancake crispy.
Step 2. Add the coarse mixture in a bowl of bread crumbs and throw in some capsicum, onion and coriander leaves in it. You may add more vegetables as per your choice.
Step 3. Add spices like red chilli powder, chilli flakes, salt, cumin powder, chaat masala (or amchoor powder) and sooji to the bowl.
Step 4. Add curd and water and mix everything together into a thick batter. Mix well to avoid the lump.
Step 5. Finally add some fruit salt or baking soda and some water and give a final mix. This will bring the fluffiness of the pancake.
Step 6. Heat a pan and add some oil to it. Pour a ladle-full batter and spread it evenly and cook till both the sides turn crispy.
Serve the matar pancakes hot with green chutney.
Alongside these crunchy delights, Parul also shared a quick recipe of the green chutney to make for a complete meal. Let’s take a look!
